G.I.A. certified diamonds and timepieces were the hottest items in Cowan’s May 21, 2017 Fine Jewelry & Timepieces Live Salesroom Auction making up seven of the Top 10 lots. The sale also featured jewelry from important makers such as Cartier and Tiffany & Co. as well as a sizable collection of Victorian pieces.
The diamonds ranged from 1.01 carat to 2.76 carat in a wide variety of cuts and colors. The top lot of the stones was a G.I.A. Certified 2.76 carat Old European Brilliant Cut diamond that sold for $13,200.
The auction started off with spirited bidding on the selection of pocket watches with most pieces hammering above estimate. The top lot of the pocket watches was a Gruen Fiftieth Anniversary in 14 karat yellow gold that sold for $2,880.
Wrist watches fetched the highest prices in the timepiece category, though, highlighted by a Patek Philippe Calatrava in 18 karat yellow gold that sold for $4,305.
