WWII Posters Promoting the Marshall Plan, Plus United Nations Posters

Lot of 8 printed posters, 5 of which promote the European Recovery Program, or the Marshall Plan, each approx. 21.25 x 29.5 in., including examples by Reyn Dirksen, Leonard Roy Horton and Ronald Sandiford, Alfred Lutz, Mario Puppo, and I. Spreekmeester. Posters feature a number of European unity symbols and slogans, including "Europe, All our Colours to the Mast," "ERP You Hold the Key," "Whatever the Weather, We Must Move Together," and "Inter-European Cooperation for Better Living Conditions," (translated from German). Illustrations featured on posters include a female figure wearing a scarf comprised of European flags, with a dove in hand, a happy-looking chef wearing a jacket made up of various European flags, stirring a pot labeled "ERP," a ship and windmill clad with numerous flags of European nations, and more.

The Marshall Plan, officially known as the European Recovery Program, was a four-year initiative passed in 1948 by the United States purposed to aid in rebuilding the economies of Western European nations after World War II. The United States pledged 12 million dollars in economic assistance to the region in an effort to prevent he spread of Communism by rebuilding areas destroyed by war, revitalize trade and industry, and generally enhance European prosperity.

Accompanied by 3 printed posters/lithographs promoting the United Nations, including the titles: "United Nations Flag: Adopted by the General Assembly - 20 October 1947," 11 x 14 in.; "The United Nations in Action: A Panorama of some of the 1949 activities of the United Nations and its related agencies in every part of the world," 17 x 25 in.; and "United Nations Day October 24," 15.5 x 22.5 in.
