WWII Archive of Major Alvin L. Smith

Lot consists of a large collection of documents, equipment, and memorabilia from the career of Major Alvin L. Smith, United States Air Force.  Included are one jackets, pair of insulated flying pants, and an insulated flight helmet, along with several documents.  Documents of special interest include a Royal Canadian Air Force commission granting Major Smith the rank of Pilot Officer, and documents attesting to the granting of Major Smith the privilege of wearing the flight wings if Mexico, China, and Brazil.

Of particular note is a photo album featuring photographs of high-profile personalities such as Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery; Astronaut Walter Schirra, commander of the first Apollo 7 flight (with autograph); and pioneering female aviator Jerrie Cobb.  Collection also includes a set of Smith's aviator badges, Commonwealth decorations, and Chinese Order of the Sacred Tripod, 6th Grade with accompanying citation.

Very good, some fading of paper and imperfections to uniforms.  A well-compiled archive of a veteran pilot with an exciting and varied career.
