WW1 Photograph Album

Album with gold lettered “Marion Platts, A.E.F.” on the cover, replete with 262 original photos, beginning with shots from the Dutch passenger liner “Nieuw Amsterdam” which carried American troops and other personnel to France (in this case “Brest") when America entered the war. Each image, mounted on corners and easily removable, is identified in pencil below the mount. Images include: Chow line at USS Carola, American Cemetery at Lamberezelle (fresh graves), German Subs Brest, (one with soldiers on deck of U-139), troops lined up for Pershing & Baker, Brest; observation balloon, frog sailors, [pictures of other identified ships], Dixie Division on way to picnic, troops bound for the big Bateau, cemetery doulas, more chow line pictures at YMCA Restaurant, chow line at new canteen, grave of John Barleycorn, Camp Pontanezan, US Marine Corps camp, Ft. Federes Casino, pile up wagon destruction from the front, French soldiers near Cathedral, No Mans Land Soissons, clearing the battle field at Soissons (pictures explosion), naval gun which fired on Big Bertha (people standing around the gun), American Cemetery at Belle Woods, fields of wire Reims, captured German tank, photo (unidentified) - but it pictures human bones, Guy Crocett, Alabama, the General and Shorty, Fred Eilskov, Virginia, [numerous other pictures of soldiers and French persons, some in traditional garb]. Inside the photo album is a lithograph (by Powell) of President Wilson with flag, dated in ink 1918. Marion Platts was likely a YMCA Worker assisting troops coming home.
