Wisconsin Pioneer Brigade Ephemera,

including a letter from George W. Rouse, 10th WI Inf. with transmittal envelope, a Ms. epic poem by E. S. Buck (? Brick), and a ruby ambro. of unidentified young man. Poem is titled "An Epic" and below "By E. S. Buck, co. B 3rd Battalion. Pioneer Brigade." 7 pp. with 2 holes in top and tied together with ribbon. Each page has 2 8-line stanzas describing the battle for Murfreesboro/Stone River, with one stanza on last page. The letter was written by G(eorge) W. Rouse, 10th WI, to his wife, 3 pp on patriotic cover with matching envelope. Camp Holton, Oct. 19, 1861. In it he describes the camp and training, and notes that his uniform is supposed to arrive within a day. Rouse did not survive the war, dying either in Charleston, according to a local newspaper column (included), or at Chickamauga, according to the Roster of Wisconsin Volunteers. Also in this lot is an unidentified 9th plate ruby ambrotype in half case.

Condition:1st has scuffing and short margin tears, one hole on last pg. torn. Letter has usual folds, scattered foxing, toning of back and folds, envelope has more foxing. Seal broken on ambro, otherwise very good condition.
