Ceramic cup, 2.5 in. ht. x 4 in. wd., decorated with profile portraits of William Henry Harrison as Major General and vignettes featuring a quaint log cabin with a barrel labelled "Hard Cider" just outside. The vignettes likely refer to Harrison's Presidential campaign of 1840, in which his Whig supporters called him the "hard cider and log cabin candidate," a phrase co-opted from an opposing Democratic newspaper's attempt to make him seem unfit for office. Whigs used the phrase to portray Harrison as a "common man" rather than a wealthy and out-of-touch politician.
Cup with some surface soil, discoloration, crazing, and chipping (at top and bottom edges), with at least two visible cracks extending downward from top edge.
