BEALE, SUPERINTENDENT OF INDIAN AFFAIRS IN CALIFORNIA, AND GWINN HARRIS HEAP, FROM MISSOURI TO CALIFORNIA, IN 1853. Philadelphia: Lippincott, Grambo, and Co., 1854. First Edition. 9 by 6 inches in the original pebbled and blind ruled green cloth (partially faded to brown) with (faint) gilt titling to the spine. Complete with the full complement of 13 tinted and b/w lithograph views; 136 and 46 pages of ads at the rear. The famous folding map is present in a high quality modern folding facsimile which is tipped in between the final page of text and the catalog.


Cloth edges and corners show modest rubbing/wear but binding is solid and sound and the contents clean and fresh. The frontis tinted lithograph has a few spots of foxing but the other views are generally quite clean. As stated the map is in a quality modern facsimile and is clean and fresh. The lithograph views were done by P.S. Duval, Lithographers, Philadelphia.
