.58 caliber. 40" barrel secured by three flat spring-retained barrel bands. no S/N. Bright finish, walnut stock, brass nose cap. Harpers Ferry marked lock dated "1858" at tail. No markings present on barrel or stock. Long range 1855 pattern rear sight, combination front sight-bayonet lug, lower sling swivel on triggerguard, missing upper swivel. Retains the swelled shank, tulip head ramrod and includes a US 1855 socket bayonet.
Fair. Musket is heavily oxidized with a dark attic brown patina and evenly distributed light surface roughness. Missing the door from the tape primer magazine. Breech plug tang sheared off of breech plug. Lock remains mechanically functional, bore is dark and dirty with moderate oxidation and visible rifling. Stock dark and dirty with some scattered cracks and repairs in the forend along with added finish. Some of the old finish has crackled and "alligatored". Stock additionally with scattered bumps, dings and mars. Bayonet in similar condition, missing the tension screw for the locking ring.
