Unmarked U.S. Model 1842-style Pistol
.58 caliber. 8.5" barrel length. SN: NSN. Polished metal finish with brass blade front sight, gripstraps, triggerguard, and barrel band. Single-shot percussion smoothbore pistol with swivel mounted steel ramrod. Item shows no surviving markings to lock plate or barrel. Faint H inspection mark to tang with left barrel marked STEEL.
Condition:
Good. Bore is frosty with patches of oxidation throughout. Iron and steel components show a mottled gray patina with oxidation surrounding nipple area. Brass pieces are tarnished. Action is able to be brought to full cock and released correctly. Wood to metal finish is tight with lock and sideplate slightly proud. Split to left stock from breech through securing pin. A second split to right side of stock at rear of lockplate. Some chipping of wood to left side of triggerguard.
