Unmarked 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber
35.5" curved, single edged-blade with 27" wide central fuller and flat spine, 41.5" in overall length. 6" hilt with heavy three-branch brass guard and Phrygian helmet pommel cap. Groove wood grip with leather covering and 18 wraps of twisted copper wire. Includes a lap seamed iron scabbard with two suspension rings.
Condition:
Good overall. Blade with some original polish and showing scattered areas of oxidation, discoloration and minor roughness. Blade to jilt junction remains tight and solid, peen in pommel cap with some impact marks. Missing throat washer, leather grip covering in place with some wear and loss, wire wrap loose. Scabbard heavily oxidized but solid and complete.
