U.S. Model 1828 (1816 Type III) Percussion Altered Musket by Pomeroy

.69 caliber. 42" round barrel secured with three flat spring-retained barrel bands. SN: NSN. Bright finish with iron furniture and a walnut stock. Single shot percussion altered muzzleloading smoothbore military musket. Lock marked with a small {Spread-Winged Eagle}/L POMEROY forward of the hammer and in two vertical lines 1834/US at the tail. The tang date weak but appears to match and barrel proofs are obscured due to aggressive cleaning. The counterpane shows only the weak shadow of a cartouche. Musket retains both sling swivels and an original full-length button head ramrod with threads at the end. The musket is altered from flint to percussion by the standard US arsenal "cone in barrel" (aka "Belgian") conversion process.

Condition:

Good. Metal cleaned aggressively and polished to bright and now toning down with freckled discoloration and some minor surface roughness. Areas of light pitting present as well. Mechanically functional, fair bore is dark, dirty, heavily oxidized and pitted. Stock lightly sanded with scattered bumps, dings and mars.
