U.S. Model 1819 Pistol by North

.54 caliber. 10" round barrel secured by a single barrel band. SN: NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, walnut stock. Single shot reconverted flintlock pistol with captive swivel ramrod. Lock marked S. NORTH in a downward arc over U {Eagle} S over MIDLTN CONN which is arched upwards. No visible date at tail of lock. Sliding safety at rear of lock, lock reconverted to flint with a reproduction brass pan, cock and frizzen. Weak breech markings wth an illegible mark over P over US. Weak script cartouche on counterpane. Retains original dished rear sight on tang, brass blade front sight and captive ramrod. Slightly more than 20,000 of these pistols were produced by Simeon North between 1819 and 1823.

Condition:

Good. Pistol with moderate wear, heavily oxidized metal showing scattered pitting with age discoloration and surface crust. Lock reconverted, mechanically functional but the safety does not properly engage. Bore fair, moderately pitted and dark. Wood fair to good, sanded with a repaired crack running from the trigger to the wrist on the obverse and cracks running through the side plate on the reverse. Otherwise with scattered bumps, dings and mars.
