Two US Civil War Cavalry Sabers
1) US Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber by Ames. 34.5" curved, single-edged blade, brass 3-branch guard, leather wrapped grooved wood grip with twisted wire. Obverse ricasso marked US/JF/1865 and reverse ricasso with Ames scroll logo. Pommel cap with JCW inspection. Scabbard of incorrect later pattern with no visible inspection marks.
2) Imported Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber retailed by Horstmann & Sons. 36" curved single-edged blade, brass 3-branch guard, leather wrapped grooved wood grip with twisted wire. Obverse ricasso marked HORSTMANN/& SONS/PHILADELPIHA, reverse with Solingen {King's Head} logo. Pommel cap numbered 93. Steel scabbard.
Condition:
1) Very good with clear markings, some wear to the leather wrap and a thickly oxidized incorrect scabbard.
2) Very good, retailer markings weak, some wear to leather wrap. Throat of scabbard loose.
