Two CDVs, USCT BBGs: Henry L. Chipman and Samuel A. Duncan

Chipman, Henry Laurens (1823-1910). Chipman enlisted early in the war as a Lieut. Colonel. He was commissioned into F&S of the 2nd MI Infy. The following year, he joined the regular army as Captain, and was commissioned in F&S of the 11th Infy. He became Colonel of the 1st MI Colored Infantry in April 1864 (the unit formed the core of the 102nd USCT). He received his brevet BG in March 1865. He mustered out in September 1865. Cdv with no photographer's ID, light tinting of cheeks. Pencil ID on verso.

Duncan, Samuel Augustus (1836-1895). In Sept. 1862 Duncan enlisted as a 26-year-old college professor as a Major, and was commissioned into F&S of the 14th NH Infy. The following September, he was commissioned Colonel in the 4th USCT. He received a brevet Brig. Gen. in Oct. 1864, and Maj. General in March 1865. He mustered out in May 1866. Backmark of Warren, Cambridgeport, MA. Pencil ID on verso.

Condition:Chipman with typical handling wear; light toning on verso. Duncan with just a couple spots, otherwise in better-than-average condition.
