10 x 12.75 in. bronze-coated cast iron relief of Roosevelt in profile and the quote "Aggressive Fighting For The Right Is The Noblest Sport The World Affords," copyrighted upper right "Fraser / 1920," and marked on reverse "Dec Arts."
James Earl Fraser (1876-1953), arguably the most important American sculptor of his generation and probably best known for designing the iconic Indian Head Nickel, originally made this portrait for a medal but later produced the plaque for the Decorative Arts League of New York.
In March 2010, President Obama used the featured quote in a speech regarding health care reform, noting he had recently seen it on a plaque displayed in the White House room where he met with insurance company executives.
