This is an unfinished work. According to a letter dated 1990, signed by Kathryn Brillhart of Indianapolis, IN, the work was pulled from the back side of a signed painting of two oxen pulling a cart, figure, and poplar trees. The primary side was also dated 1884 and inscribed "Munich".
