The Massachusetts Gazette and the Boston Weekly News-Letter. Boston, MA: R. Draper, May 9, 1771. No. 3526. 4pp, 9.75 x 15.5 in.

Contains an inside page report on the election of James Otis, John Hancock, Samuel Adams, and Thomas Cushing as representatives to meet with the British authorities over the protests in the aftermath of the Boston Massacre in 1770. Also includes a sale ad for enslaved person. According to the article, Otis (399 votes), Cushing (410), Adams (403), and Hancock (410) were elected at "a Meeting of the Freeholders and other Inhabitants" of Boston. Continuing in part: "After the above Choice, the Hon. James Otis, Esq. was chosen Moderator of the Meeting, to transact the other Matters mentioned in the Notification." The ad for the enslaved person on page 3 reads, "TO BE SOLD for want of Imploy, A likely Healthy Negro Woman, that understands Cooking, and all other House-work, and can be well Recommended, Enquire of the Printer."
