Presumably original art for The Fete, ca. 1917, for a playing card that accompanies the painting. Measures 9.5 x 16 in. (sight) and 18 x 26 in. with its frame.
The Fete refers to a popular 1700s French painting style fête champêtre, which featured figures dressed for a ball or in masquerade costumes parading in park settings. The interpretation for this painting is similar with a woman dressed for a masquerade, but in the art deco style consistent with the period of the playing card.
Very good, but has not been observed outside its frame.
