.69 caliber, 42" barrel, no S/N. Armory bright finish with full-length military stick secured by three barrel bands. Top of barrel shows "V/P/[eagle]" proof marks with tang showing "1853" production date. Beveled lockplate with American eagle and "U.S." forward of hammer, rear of hammer marked in three lines "SPRING/FIELD/1853." Counterpane shows "JS" in box cartouche of James Stillman. Very good. Finish shows some evidence of old cleaning with some streaked staining. Stock has been lightly sanded with visible cartouche. Mechanically functional. Bore shows some old grime and dust.
