[Americus, GA]: n.p., [ca 1898]. 6 x 8 in. photograph on cardstock mount (some spotting/soiling on print and mount, few surface scratches on print, corner/edge wear to mount). Camp scene showing two military non-commissioned officers and a teenage African American man in front of a tent, with the subjects identified in period ink on verso as "Non-Commissioned Staff. 9th Mass. Vol. Inf. / Sergeant Major Julian M. Dodge & orderly / Quartermaster Sergt. Chas. F.? Perkins." -- Cabinet card portrait depicting the same African American male at a slightly younger age, almost certainly taken a few years before he served as Sergeant Major Dodge's orderly. 4 x 5 3/4 in. photograph on cardstock mount (some spotting/soiling on print, toning, corner wear to mount). N.p.: n.p., [ca last quarter 19th century]. 

The 8th Massachusetts Volunteers served stateside during the Spanish-American War in 1898 and was then sent to Cuba after the cease-fire to serve as part of the occupation force.
