Lot of 2 CDVs, including a studio portrait of African American slave Wilson Chinn reading to three young fair-skinned slaves, with recto imprint, "Learning is Wealth / Wilson, Charley, Rebecca & Rosa, / Slaves from New Orleans." Verso imprint of Chas. Paxson, Photographer, New York, designated No. 6 of the series, 1864 copyright to S. Tackaberry, New York, with the appeal, "The nett proceeds from the sale of these photographs will be devoted to the education of Colored People in the department of the Gulf, now under the command of Maj. Gen'l Banks." Accompanied by vignetted view of "Rebecca. A Slave Girl from New Orleans," as imprinted on recto, with verso credit to Paxson, and designated No. 2 from the same series. 


Each with light toning, some areas of minor foxing/spotting/light soiling. Mount verso of Rebecca CDV with uneven toning.
