Page 4 reports the implementation of the Emancipation Proclamation: "Important. The Proclamation of the President of the United States. Emancipation. All Slaves in all States and Section in Rebellion Declared Free." A small article below the text of the Proclamation titled "The Proclamation in Boston" notes that the executive order was read "to a meeting of the Union Progressive Association, composed of colored citizens" where it was met with "unbounded enthusiasm." It notes that the meeting also featured addresses by Frederick Douglass, William Wells Brown, and other prominent abolitionists. Frontpage includes a map and reportage on the Battle of Stones River.
