[SLAVERY & ABOLITION] -- [CIVIL WAR]. Two CDVs of children, incl. "Rebecca, A Slave Girl from New Orleans."

Albumen CDV of seated young girl gazing up at an American flag. New York: Chas. Paxson, 1864. Caption below image reads: "'Oh! How I Love The Old Flag.' Rebecca, / A Slave Girl from New Orleans." Photographer's imprint on verso alongside series number, copyright, ordering address, and statement reading: "The nett proceeds from the sale of these Photographs will be devoted to the education of Colored People in the department of the Gulf, now under the command of Maj. Gen'l Banks."

CDV vignette portrait of three children identified by caption as Frank, Frederick, and Alice (clipped bottom corners). Philadelphia: Wenderoth, Taylor & Brown, 1867. Imprint on verso below printed information about "The Children of the Battle Field" and statement reading: "The copies are sold in furtherance of the Sabbath - School effort to found and endow the National Homestead at Gettysburg for Orphans of our Soldiers and Sailors, in Memorial of our Perpetuated Union."

Copied from the daguerreotype found in the hands of the dead Sgt. Humiston, 154th NY at Gettysburg, the popular likenesses of "Frank, Frederick & Alice" were widely sold to benefit the fatherless children in an enduring act of wartime charity.

Together, 2 CDVs, with some light soiling, stray pencil markings (mostly to "Children" CDV), spotting, and light wear to edges and corners.
