Lot includes fifteen sixth plate ambrotypes of children in hinged pressed paper cases, some of whom appear to be of Hispanic or South/Central American descent. Fashions include half and full-sleeve dresses, pleated blouses, and more informal children's gowns, some with unique patterns of cloth. Though obviously posed for the photographer's studio, the subjects in several images appear quite intimate, with joined hands or other physical contact.
Jewelry is present on both male and female subjects, with one young boy in particular sporting what appears to be two rings on his right hand. Some images show highlighting and tinting of accessories.
Provenance:Charles A. and Frances Swedlund Collection of Early Photography
