Silver ID Pin of Charles J. Hays, 16th Maine Volunteers, Captured at Gettysburg and Imprisoned at Richmond

Charles J. Hayes (as his name is spelled in multiple primary records), enlisted in August of 1862 as a corporal and mustered into Co. H, 16th Maine Infantry that same day. After undergoing a reduction in rank and serving in the ambulance corps for many months, he was captured at the Battle of Gettysburg and taken to Richmond for imprisonment before being paroled in December of 1863.

Scratching to surface and a few imperfections to outer edge.
