Salt Print of Antebellum Louisiana Militiaman

Oval salt print, 6 x 8 in. (sight), matted and framed, 12.25 x 14.5 in. Uncredited: n.d., ca late 1850s-early 1860s. Studio portrait of unidentified young private that is likely a late antebellum Louisiana militiaman. The subject wears a large brass belt plate with clipped corners having a fairly visible variant of the Louisiana state seal featuring the Pelican.
