Robert E. Lee Albumen Photograph

An oval portrait of a uniformed Robert E. Lee, seated on his front porch, marked at lower margin M. Brady & Co., dated 1865; 6 x 8 in., mounted on original card stock, framed and glazed, approx. 11.5 x 13.5 in.

This is one of the six pictures taken by Brady at Lee's home in Richmond, VA shortly after the end of the Civil War. General Lee is dressed in the uniform that he wore for his meeting with General Grant at Appomattox.

Condition:Heavy spotting in background; very slight surface loss in lower margin of photograph; staining along upper margin of mat.
