Offset/mimeographed copy (8.5 x 11 in.) of a speech given at a meeting at the Marcus Garvey Center. Nine pages plus photocopies of newspaper articles about the meeting. Repatriation was a late iteration of the Back-to-Africa movement embraced by Marcus Garvey and Rastafarians.
The New-York Daily Tribune. Vol. 22 (XXII), No. 6755. New York: 27 Nov. 1862. Near the bottom of Col. 3, page 4 is an editorial ("Colonizing the Freedmen") on Lincoln's proposal to send 3,000,000 freedmen to Costa Rica. Not only was there no infrastructure to support them, the writer argues that their labor was needed in the U.S. at that time. Many did go on to fight in Colored Regiments, others worked as servants to higher-ranking officers in the army.
