.69 caliber. 20.5" barrel length. SN: NSN. Converted flintlock to percussion musket with single barrel band and a single sling swivel. Browned finish with a straight grip walnut stock. Item is marked "REMINGTON'S/ILION N.Y./1857/U.S." to right side lockplate and "U.S" to heel of buttplate. Stock has letters "WAM" and what appears to be a backwards "EEHT" marked to left of buttstock. Right side of buttstock appears to have an "H" mark. There is a weak possible cartouche to bottom of grip. This item appears to be a Remington/Franklin Arsenal Maynard conversion rifle. The stock and barrel were most likely shortened at some point. This item is believed to have been used by Pvt. William A. Millar, of the 3rd South Carolina Cavalry during the Civil War.
Poor. Bore is dark. Finish has heavy pitting and oxidation overall. Stock has losses, hairline cracks, and scratches overall. Action is functional.
