American (possibly Maryland), 1790-1800. A rare Hepplewhite mahogany veneered mixing table, with white pine secondary and original handcut marble top, over a skirt with inlaid oval, on tapered legs; ht. 28, wd. 43, dp. 23 in.
Provenance:Property from the Descendants of Bertha Benkard Rose, Oyster Bay, NY and Tucson, AZ
Frame sunbleached. The marble top is hand sawn and hand smoothed, which is more apparent on the underside. It sags slightly in the center where it is unsupported by the table frame. The sag develops over the centuries on marble top tables.
