**Rare "Amex Co" Marked Colt Model 1877 Lightning Revolver with Holster

.38 Long Colt, 4.5" barrel, S/N 154333 (mfg. ca1904). Blued and color casehardened finish, checkered hard rubber Rampant Colt grips. Two-line Hartford barrel address, 3-date in 3-line patent marking on frame with Rampant Colt logo. Matching serial numbers on frame, triggerguard and butt. Backstrap engraved AmExp Co 1150. While a Colt Factory Letter has not been obtained, the serial number suggests that this gun was part of the shipment of 50 guns (engraved with the American Express ownership markings and the numbers 1101-1150 at the Colt Factory) that were sent to the American Express purchasing agent William Read & Sons of Boston on June 15, 1904. The revolver is accompanied by a leather flap holster with snap closure stamped RAILWAY EXPRESS / AGENCY. Only 1,200 of the AmExp Co marked M1877 revolvers were purchased from Colt, making them a scarce and desirable addition to any advanced Colt or M1877 revolver collector.

Provenance:From the Collection of Charlie Hinton

Very good. Retains some strong areas of blue on the barrel and nice blue in the cylinder flutes with the balance of the gun mostly a lightly mottled gray patina with some dull and faded traces of case color on the frame. Mechanically functional, clear markings, fine bore. Grips with moderate wear.
