Raised Carved Kentucky Flintlock Fullstock Rifle By John Shuler

.42 caliber, 43.25" pinned octagonal barrel, no S/N. Browned finish, brass furniture, faux striped maple finished stock. Flat stepped flint lock with roller frizzen and fenced waterproof pan marked R/ASHMORE/WARRANTED in three lines with single set trigger. Lock is likely a replacement as rifle is a reconversion to flint. Barrel signed John Shuler in script and marked 42 at breech. Engraved four-piece brass Daisy Head patch box, lightly engraved toe plate and two-screw side plate. Stock with a graceful Roman nosed profile and raised carved cheek rest with engraved German silver crescent moon inlay, carved leaf pattern decorations and carved moldings along the toe line. 1.85" brass nose cap, two round thimbles and and a brass entry pipe with an old wood ramrod that is likely a replacement.

Good. Barrel with a mottled and oxidized plum brown and gray patina with some scattered light pitting that heavy at the breech from use as a percussion rifle. Reconverted to flint. Lock mechanically functional with some pitting. 8-groove bore with crisp rifling and scattered pitting. Brass with an uncleaned patina, German silver deeply tarnished. Stock with numerous bumps, dings and mars, showing extensive repairs through the lock mortise area, and some smaller repairs in the forend. A chip is missing from the toe, as well as a piece of the toe plate.
