Quarter Plate Ruby Ambrotype of Armed Infantry Private Attributed to Quinby, Charleston, SC

Quarter plate ruby ambrotype of an armed but unidentified infantry private out of Aiken, South Carolina, wearing a seven-button sack coat. The short jacket appears to have seven flat, wooden buttons cut with a short stand-up collar. The private holds a P'53 Enfield Rifle and wears a plain rifleman's leather belt with buckle. Although lacking a studio marking, this image was almost certainly photographed by Quinby Studios in Charleston, SC. Housed in half case with ring attached at top for hanging on wall.

Wear along perimeter of plate. Wipes in plate. Contrast very good despite wear to plate.

Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500
