Quarter Plate Daguerreotype of Colonel Robert W. Abbe,

anonymous seated 3/4-length portrait of older gentleman still in original seals, with manuscript label on felt mat reading Col. Robert W. Abbe/1797-1883, housed in embossed paper-covered wood case with crossed bow and arrows with torch and ribbon in center, floral wreath surround. We could find no information on this gentleman other than Federal census records for 1870 and 1880 listing his residence as Lea Roy, Geneses Co., N.Y., place of birth CT, no occupation, age 72 (in 1870) and living with wife Mary, age 52 (in 1870), and another Mary Abbe, age 5 (in 1870), likely granddaughter, value of property listed at $6000. This lot could likely improve with further research.
