Quarter Plate Ambrotype of Federal Black Hat,
an unusually well-animated clear ambrotype of a fully equipped infantry corporal with knee bent forward as if leaning into the camera. He wears a regulation Hardee hat, no insignia, with blue-tinted infantry cords and freshly issued sack coat and leather accoutrements including canteen. His knapsack is topped by a blanket rolled in oil-cloth cover while the Enfield rifle is still plugged with brass tompion. Sadly, no identification.
