Quarter Plate Ambrotype of Armed Maine Corporal

An unidentified early war volunteer wearing the eight-button gray wool frock coat issued to the 1st through 6th infantry regiments. The corporal displays the distinctive oversized chevrons associated with this state uniform along with a pair of belted revolvers. Regulation blue clothing replaced state gray in August 1861. Maine purchased 800 Colt revolvers and issued them to officers and NCOs early in 1861.

Condition:Plate is VG with good clarity; housed in damaged thermoplastic case (Krainik 27).
