1. Frame 15.5" wide. 25.25" tall. Sight 11.75" wide. 20" tall. Framed embossed advertisement for Quail Cigars depicting a hunter and dog approaching a trio of quail hidden among corn. Top shows the text "QUAIL CIGARS" with text at bottom obscured by the frame mounting with recognizable "T STIER & SON" at bottom. John T. Stier was a tobacco maker from Louisville, Kentucky, who took out an initial copyright on the Quail brand in 1870. From then until their company was acquired by the Schroer Brothers who would utilize the Quail label in 1947. Frame is particle board with a walnut pattern veneer and geometric border. Advertisement further framed by a red cardboard matboard.
2. Frame 33.4" wide. 14.5" tall. Sights 12.75" wide. 7.75" tall. Framed pair of lithographs with mounting advertising DuPont smokeless powder. Left Lithograph signed by Charles Schreyvogel depicts a mounted United States Cavalryman shooting down a buffalo with a Colt Single Action Army revolver. Background shows additional cavalry and buffalo amid a Great Plains setting. Right Lithograph by Edmund H. Osthaus shows two dogs investigating the thicket at the edge of a forest. Pale brown matboard for lithographs reads "E. I. DUPONT de NEMOURS & CO./WILMINGTON DEL." between and below the two lithographs while the right corner reads "MANUFACTURERS/OF/DU PONT SMOKELESS/POWDER". Frame is black-painted wood with a plywood back held in place with nails.
Condition:
1. Poor. Frame has some scratches and wear to edges with lower left seam separating. Mold has accumulated in lower portion of advertisement with some pigment flecks falling off of Quail in bottom of image. Paper back shows water damage with a tear and further mold toward bottom of frame.
2. Poor. Frame shows mold and discolorations along lower edge in particular with abrasions and mars along edges. Mold and dust have accumulated at the bottom of each Lithograph with the DuPont mount showing discolorations and further mold along bottom making the text difficult to read. Backboard shows some splits and wear at corners. Some remnants of a paper back can be seen along edges of rear frame. All nails show corrosion.
