Prussian Liebgendarmerie Helmet with Eagle

Model 1889 helmet of the personal bodyguards of the German emperor and empress with nickeled steel “lobster tailed” body of unique design with tombac trim. Front and rear visors have pointed shape. Garde star silver helmet plate consists of enlisted pattern of the Order of the Black Eagle with Mitt Gott Fur Konig und Vaterland 1860 ribbon and "Suum Cuique" motto with orange center and black eagle separate piece. Gilt crowned eagle with upswept wings of unit specific design and worn for parades and ceremonial duties sits atop an elliptical base with rivets. Large Prussian state cockade with convex cavalry style brass chinstraps with leather lining. Interior lining consists of green leather to underside of front visor and black leather to rear visor. Head and sweatband are of leather. Members of the two troops of this guard were enlisted personnel commanded by officers of the 2nd Kurassier Regiment under a general officer aide-de-camp. Men selected for these units were required to be Sergeants with 12 years of prior service and expert marksmen with pistol. Includes hand painted figure depicting full uniform. 

Condition:

Eagle has dent in chest. Patina commensurate with age. Extremely rare specimen for the smallest of Prussian elite units.
