POW Carving and Rings

Lot of 3, including a carved square of polished bone, approx. 1.5 in. x 1.5 in., with curved backing. Incised and painted with blue and red ink, displaying crossed sabers and a revolver, surrounded by text on four sides reading, "P.H. / Co. F / 13th REGT / PA. CAV." P.H refers to Private Peter Huntsberger of Cumberland, PA. Huntsberger enlisted on August 23, 1862 as a Private and was mustered into Company F of the Pennsylvania 13th Cavalry. Captured at Wyatt's Farm, VA on September 29, 1864, Huntsberger was held at the Salisbury Prison in North Carolina, where he died of disease on January 16, 1865.

Lot completed by two rings, one approx. 0.9 in. diameter with metal plate stamped "G.A.R.," and the second approx. 0.6 in. diameter stamped "LIEUT. JOE. MURPHY. CO. F. 9th MASS. VOLS. 1861." Lieutenant Joseph Murphy served with "The Fighting Ninth" and was listed among its wounded on May 5, 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness.
