Allen Smith (American, 1810-1890), signed and dated 1847 l.r.; 26 x 21 in. and housed in original gilt and gesso frame with inscription on verso Josiah Clark, Cleaveland, OH. Smith, a portrait and landscape painter, lived in Cleveland from 1842-1883. While there, Smith painted the portraits of prominent citizens linked to Western Reserve University.
