Approx. .40 caliber, 29" octagonal barrel, NSN. Checkered grip with iron mountings, schuetzen-style buttplate, and replaced forend cap. Blade front sight with elevator rear sight and tang mounted aperture rear sight. Top of barrel marked "G. BEUTTENMULLER/CHICAGO ILL". Muzzle milled for false muzzle. Cheek piece has added German silver ornament of eagle and ribband engraved "F. Geerken".
Considered to be one of Illinois' finest gunsmiths, George Beuttenmuller first appears in Chicago city directories in 1853.
Good. Barrel has a middling gunmetal coloration with some marring and scratches to barrel. Some pitting around breech with marring to cup of hammer. Some handling marks and dents to stock, but no serious cracks, splits, or other major damage. Buttplate is ill-fitting with some gaps near to of stock. Bore is very good; minimal pitting with visible rifling.
