Pair of Segregation-Era Drinking Fountains,

white-enameled cast iron, one labeled Whites Only, which retains its spigot, guard and drain, and the other labeled Colored, which retains only the drain and has been fastened with screws to a modern wooden mount; 9.5" x 11.5". They came to us from North Carolina, and while nothing else is known of their origins, they are all the more chilling when one considers their ubiquity in our history.

Condition:Numerous chips to the enamel, especially around the rim of the Colored fountain and the mount of the Whites Only fountain. Some evidence of rust around chips, could use a cleaning; VG-.

Estimate: $2,500 - $4,500
