Model 1884 Springfield Cadet Rifle

.45-70, 29.5" barrel, S/N 431277. Blued and color casehardened finish, walnut stock. Standard two-line U.S. / Springfield lock marking with {Spread-Winged Eagle}, breech block correctly marked US/MODEL/1884. Weak V/P/{Eagle Head} inspection marks with additional P inspection.  Two weak cartouches on reverse wrist without a {Circle}-P firing proof behind triggerguard. "R" marked Buffington rear sight, musket style front sight/bayonet lug. Low arch breech, 3-click tumbler, grooved trigger, two-piece triggerguard. Retains 1884 style slotted head cleaning rod and both barrel bands with sling and stacking swivels. Includes a US M1873 Cadet Socket Bayonet.


Good. Barrel with a mottled and oxidized brown patina, breech block with some strong traces of case color. Barrel markings weak, lock and breech block markings legible, cartouches weak. Mechanically functional, good bore with moderate oxidation and scattered light pitting. Stock lightly sanded with some scattered light handling marks and some chipped wood loss around the tang. Bayonet very good.
