Lithographed poster, 26 x 39.5 in., mounted on linen, 30 x 42 in. Michael P. Whelan. Men Wanted for the Army. Ca 1910.
An officer stands with hands on his rifle beside a soldier on horseback playing a bugle, a metaphoric call to action under the copy “Men Wanted for the Army.” The lower margin reads “Apply at ____ Recruiting Station,” allowing recruiters to direct men to their nearest station, however, this one is not filled in. The uniforms of the two officers suggest a date of ca 1910 during the heavy militarization seen globally prior to World War I.
Condition:
Professionally mounted. Colors bright and vivid. Some small repairs noted along lower edge.
