Memorabilia from the Kennedy Inner Circle

Kennedy memorabilia includes items from the personal collection of Kennedy family secretary Mary Barelli Gallagher.

This lot contains items associated with Frank Allen Orofino (1910-2000), whom Gallagher met while working with the campaign. Known professionally as "Frank Allen," he was the Chairman of the Board of Allen Dental-Medical Development Corp. He designed countless campaign buttons, posters, PT boat tie clips, bumper stickers, pens, pencils and even Jacqueline Kennedy perfume used to promote the Kennedy campaign in 1960.

Also with a Kennedy Eternal Flame Silver Bar (40% silver) in its plastic package and with an order form for it, accompanied by a typed note from Frank Allen on his personal stationery addressed to Mary and Ray Gallagher, dated November 27, 1973 (made for the 10th anniversary of the President's death). Allen writes: "It is with a great sense of honor that I send to you the remembrance of one of the greatest men of all times, President John F. Kennedy. Please accept the number 26 Commemorative Silver Bar that I designed as a token of one man's appreciation for what President Kennedy has left for this Nation to cherish and remember." Signed "Frank." With cover.

ALS, [New York], [November 27, 1973] on Allen Dental-Medical Development Corp. letterhead. "...As promised I'm enclosing the JFK Eternal Flame for yours to enjoy. I will be receiving my new shipment of P.T. Boats within the next ten days. I gave the last 2 - one to Daily News Editor and one to the Pres. of N.Y. Athletic Club.....P.S. This perfume package has not been opened in 20 years. I want you to have the pleasure of being the first one to open it. I hope it didn't dry out." The PT Boat tie clips and Jackie perfume were two of the items Allen produced for the campaign, though not included here. Accompanied by Allen's business card for Allen Dental-Medical.

The third is a group of three items from Frank Allen to Mary and Ray Gallagher consisting of a holiday greeting with one of Allen's favorite poems and two Phonoscope cards. Both have manuscript "Merry X Mas / Happy New Year / Frank, Ida Ray & John" in the message box. "1984" has been added below, presumably by Mrs. Gallagher. One card shows a photo of Lake of Thoune with Alexander's Ragtime Band by Irving Berlin. The other is a photo of Steckborn with Arrivederci Roma (Rascel - Garinei-Giovanini). All three were mailed in the same envelope (included).

Estimate: $500 - $700
