McClellan-Style ID Disc of George Teele, Co. I, 19th Massachusetts Infantry

Civil War identification disc, 1.125 in. dia., with a profile portrait of General George B. McClellan at center surrounded by text reading, "Major General Geo. B. McClellan / War of 1861" on obverse. Reverse engraved with, "Geo. E. Teele / Co. I / 19th Mass. V. / Fredsburg, Antietam / Medford, Mass," with battles listed in a curved arrangement. Hole drilled above McClellan's head.

George E. Teele, a wheelwright from Medford, MA, enlisted on April 16, 1861 and served his full three years with Co. I, 19th Massachusetts Infantry. Teele acquired this disc seemingly after the Battle of Fredericksburg (December 1862), an engagement in which his regiment suffered heavy casualties. Teele served with the 19th Massachusetts at the Battles of Gettysburg, Spotsylvania Court House, and Cold Harbor before mustering out in August 1864.
