Massive Japanese Samurai Sword (Wakizashi) by Motonaga, Signed and Dated

16.75" hira-zukuri blade with complex suguha hamon and masame hada. Beautiful ubu nakago with one mekugi-ana, along with full eight-character signature and date Bunkwa 6 (1809).  Yusuri yasurime.  Beautiful iron tsuba with gamboling tiger amidst peony flowers.  Iron fuchikashira en suite with tsuba.  Peony menuki en suite.  Interesting two-color lacquer scabbard missing kojiri.  An incredible massive and heavy wakizashi by a well-known maker in excellent condition with particularly attractive en suite mounts.

Includes NTHK Origami for mounts dated Heisei 5 (1993) and for blade dated Showa 54 (1979).


Blade is in good condition with some minor rust staining and scratching.  Could use a fine hand with nagui powder.  Nakago with perfect rust. Tsukamaki unraveling, needs attention.
