.31 caliber, 3.5" barrel, no S/N. Blued and color case hardened finish, brass triggerguard, walnut grip. Single action, 6-shot percussion pocket revolver. Top strap marked in two lines MASS ARMS CO over CHICOPEE FALLS. Back action lock marked WESSON'S & LEAVITT'S PATENT. Rear face of cylinder with fully legible two-line patent date information. Frame and lock with simple floral scroll engraving, cylinder acid etched with floral motifs and panoplies of arms. Only about 1,000 of these percussion pocket pistols were produced circa 1850-1851. Production was ended by a successful patent infringement lawsuit brought by Colt. The firm remained in business by redesigning their guns to have manually rotated cylinders and by including the Maynard automatic tape priming system.
Good. Retains no finish with a dull gray patina with scattered surface oxidation, discoloration and light pitting. Markings remain legible and most of the cylinder etching remains visible. Mechanically functional, poor bore is rusted and dirty. Percussion cone recesses rusted and dirty. Grip with wear but retaining some varnish.
