[LOUVERTURE, Toussaint. (1743-1803)]. DELPHEC, Francois Seraphim, lithographer, after Nicolas Eustache Maurin. Toussaint Louverture. [France, ca 1833].

Lithograph, 7 x 11 in., some spotting. Bust, three-quarter profile portrait of Louverture in military dress with his facsimile signature below.

This print was published in the 1833 edition of Francois Delpech's Iconographie des contemporains depuis 1789 jusqu'à 1829 (vol.2). It is a reduced version of the lithograph first published by Nicolas Maurin in the larger 1832 edition of the Iconographie. It is based on a sketch that was done purportedly before Louverture was arrested by Napoleon and taken to France to spend his final days in the prison of Joux.
