Lot of 3 J. Russell & Co. Green River Knives
1.) 8.5” blade length. 5” wood scaled grips. 13.5” overall. Single-edge butcher blade knife signed “J. RUSSELL & CO./GREEN RIVER WORKS.” Item is not full tang construction and rear 1.5” of handle fastened over empty space. 6 brass fasteners secure blade and grip scales.
2.) 9” blade length. 3” hilt. 12” overall. Single-edged knife with 7” false edge. Left side of blade marked “J. RUSSELL & CO/1834/GREEN RIVER WORKS” within a diamond. Grips are resin with hidden tang construction. Grips have broken with cracks to upper and lower edges and rear portion having broken free and been lost.
3.) 4.25” blade length. 4.5” split scaled hilt. 8.75” overall. Single-edge curved bladed skinning knife signed “J. RUSSELL & CO/GREEN RIVER WORKS” to left side of blade. Grips are Two-piece wood with traces of filler surrounding tang. Grips secured by three fasteners: two are nails with the tips bent to hold them in place; the third is a wooden peg. Tang extends 2.75” into hilt.
Condition:
1.) Fair. Edge shows numerous small bites with further mars along back edge of blade. The blade shows mottled oxidation with some gray patina over bare metal. Grip scales show numerous mars with a 4” long chip to right grip scale that cuts to the first fastener.
2.) Good. Blade has a rolled tip with some dulled spots and edgeroll. Item shows scratches from previous sharpening. Grip scales are discolored with visible cracks and rear portion broken off.
3.) Good. Blade has some discolored spots to both sides with a clean edge showing signs of frequent sharpening. Tip is rounded off with a slight bend to the right. Wood grips are uneven and grip scales secured with nails that protrude from the wood.
